Who is a good Civil Engineer?

Er. E. Sreedharan (Metroman)

Learn the subject thoroughly. Knowledge is strength. Knowledge about the subject will attract respect and will always be your greatest strength. And then develop good qualities. Mere knowledge of engineering is not enough if you don't have values and ethics. You can never be a brilliant engineer if you don't love your country.

What is decibel (dB)?

What is a decibel?

To understand the dB, we need to learn Exponents and Logarithm first,
What is Logarithm and how it is related to the exponents?
Here's a simple example:

Here, the little 2 is called the exponent. It means multiply 10 by itself twice. Similarly, for:

3 is the exponent, and means multiply 10 by itself 3 times.

logarithm is the exact opposite of an exponent. Take another simple example. This is pronounced "the logarithm to base ten of one thousand equals three":

10 is called the base. The logarithm of 1000 is simply the number of times the base (in this case 10) must be multiplied by itself to get to 1000, i.e. 3 times. And you should notice that this is just the same as the exponent from the equation above. Each equation uses the same three numbers, just arranged in a slightly different way.
Now, the strange thing is that exponents and bases don't have to be whole numbers. In fact, they can be any numbers at all. Here is a completely random example:

One important rule to learn is that the logarithm of 1 is always zero, regardless of its base.

The decibel

The decibel (dB) is one tenth of a bel and is named in honour of Alexander Graham Bell. The intensity in dB of a sound of intensity I is given by

It is a relative unit which means it only makes sense when you have a reference level to compare to. For our reference we use the threshold of human hearing. The quietest thing any human can hear, I0, is one trillionth of a watt per square meter. So, if a sound is twice as intense as I0, its intensity will be

Significant courses you need to learn after B.Tech

What are Important courses after civil engineering?

https://www.quora.com/What-are-Important-courses-after-civil-engineering/answer/CivilTalents-Com

Apart from higher studies and courses like MBA, M. Tech etc, why can’t someone think out of the box? Practical courses with job oriented specializations may help you a lot. Higher studies you can pursue later also once you have settled in your career. Every year the competition in the Industry is increasing from the newer batches of Civil Engineers.
More than 70% of the jobs are offered by private companies. They need Civil Engineers with basic degree only. But job proficiency is a must. If you closely observe the job market, you can see that the job requirements are focused on specialized engineering skills such as Planning Engineer, Project Engineer, Billing Engineer, Quantity Surveyor, Tendering Engineer, QA/QC Engineer etc based on the nature of the job.
In my opinion and based on my 2 decades of experience in the Construction Industry in India and abroad, I can surely say this. The Engineering Education in India is not focusing on these real facts. Fresh Engineers are really struggling in their initial years to get a clarity of what the industry is required and how to establish their position in the Industry. They are really wasting their 2–3 years of career by grabbing the first come job even at a very low salary like 5K or more.
On this basis I have started a firm to support fresh Engineers in Kochi, Kerala. But the attitude of the students are changed and they are now planning to learn practical subjects other than leaning CAD and 3D ?
