Apart from higher studies and courses like MBA, M. Tech etc, why can’t someone think out of the box? Practical courses with job oriented specializations may help you a lot. Higher studies you can pursue later also once you have settled in your career. Every year the competition in the Industry is increasing from the newer batches of Civil Engineers.
More than 70% of the jobs are offered by private companies. They need Civil Engineers with basic degree only. But job proficiency is a must. If you closely observe the job market, you can see that the job requirements are focused on specialized engineering skills such as Planning Engineer, Project Engineer, Billing Engineer, Quantity Surveyor, Tendering Engineer, QA/QC Engineer etc based on the nature of the job.
In my opinion and based on my 2 decades of experience in the Construction Industry in India and abroad, I can surely say this. The Engineering Education in India is not focusing on these real facts. Fresh Engineers are really struggling in their initial years to get a clarity of what the industry is required and how to establish their position in the Industry. They are really wasting their 2–3 years of career by grabbing the first come job even at a very low salary like 5K or more.
On this basis I have started a firm to support fresh Engineers in Kochi, Kerala. But the attitude of the students are changed and they are now planning to learn practical subjects other than leaning CAD and 3D ?
